American Civil Rights Movement

Though the slaves were freed during the American Civil War, African Americans still did not have the same rights that white American citizens had. In the 1950's, African Americans began the battle to secure equal rights for their people. It was a hard time for America, but thanks to the labors of people like Martin Luther King Jr., African Americans finally got the ability to vote, desegragation, and the other rights that all American citizens hold dear.
