There once was a mouse who wanted to learn how to count, so he decided to take “a look at one book, / that had one hole to run through.” He ran “onto the next page,” and he took a look through the hole that was there. Through the hole (and wearing a mask for the purpose) he saw three fish swimming in the sea.

Through the hole on the next page, he saw four monkeys “swinging in a tree,” and beyond that, he found himself on a page of five fluttering butterflies.

In this clever bookish adventure, one never knows what the mouse is going to find when he peers through the hole that he finds on every page. Will there be cats beyond, or perhaps something tasty to eat?

Children learning to count will be charmed by this very unique picture book. With its rhyming and rhythmic text and its utterly charming main character, this title is sure to become a firm favorite.
