All too often children forget that they are not only a part of their own neighbourhood and school communities, but they are also part of something much bigger – they are part of a world community. In this colourful and cheerful picture book with its foldout pages, children are able to see how children in other countries also have words like ‘Yuck” and “Yum” in their vocabulary, though they say them differently. For example in Germany instead of saying “Yum!” children say “Leckah!” and instead of saying “Yikes!” a polish child would say “Oy!”
As they look through this clever book, Children will delight in being able to unfold the pages to see how boys and girls like themselves in different countries cry, laugh, sneeze, and cheer. Throughout the book there are bright, expressive illustrations of children from Korea, India, Greece, Indonesia, Russia, France and other countries around the world. Young readers will feel a connection with other children, and they will no doubt also enjoy hearing how children in other cultures express themselves.
