Wind is one of those things that we are so used to that we sometimes take it for granted. Except for those days when it is really hot and breathless and on those days when a storm blows through and the wind howls; at such times we notice the lack of or the overabundance of wind. Many of us don't even know why wind blows.

This clever little book, with its fold out pages and its carefully thought out questions and answers, will help young children understand what wind is. They will also learn why wind is cooling, how it builds up sand dunes, and how it turns a pinwheel.

On each double page spread the child narrator tells us what she likes about wind and then a question is asked. The answer can be found under a fold out page, and the illustrator includes many diagrams to make sure that the answer to the question is easy to understand.

This is one of the titles in the wonderfully presented Exploring the Elements series. Other titles in the collection look at the rain, the sun, and the snow.
