When the little crocodile hatches out of his egg his first thought is "Where?s my Mommy?" and off he goes to look for his mother.

The first animal he comes across is a monkey and he immediately asks if the monkey is his mother. It is soon apparent to them both that the crocodile is not a baby monkey for the crocodile cannot swing from a tree nor can it make wild monkey noises. Indeed the only sound the baby crocodile can make is a "snap" sound.

On the baby crocodile goes until he meets a tiger "lazing in the sun." The baby crocodile wonders once again if this animal might be its mother but when he tries to roll in the grass the way the tiger does, the poor baby crocodile gets stuck and when he tries to roar tiger fashion all he can manage is his little crocodile "snap." Clearly the tiger is not his mother either.

In all, the little crocodile meets four animals before he finally finds his mother and though his search is frustrating and perhaps a little sad at times, it is also amusing to watch the little crocodile trying so hard to be a monkey, a tiger, an elephant, and a zebra.
