It is Christmas Eve and Santa's reindeer are ready to go. Harnesses have been tightened, bells are polished, and the sleigh is all loaded up. Only one thing is missing – Santa himself. Where is he? Quickly two bunnies hop away on "polar paws" to see if they can find Santa. The bunnies are soon joined by a pair of seal pups who glide along the snow on their bellies.

These four animals are soon joined by others, all of whom are eager to find Santa and to get him back to his sleigh so that he can get on with his Christmas work.

Little children will love this story for a number of reasons. The illustrations are delightful to look at, the rhyming text is full of splendid sound noises such as "thump-bump" and "flip-flop," and the ending is deliciously funny.
