Children love watching things grow; there is something remarkable about seeing a seed sprout and grow into a plant, and watching a blind newborn kitten turn into a rambunctious little furball.
In this clever novelty board book, children can see the stages that butterflies, frogs, turtles, chickens, and a puppy go through as they grow up. One species of animal is featured on every double page spread. On one of these pages there is a dial that children can turn that allows them to see how the growing process works.
On the turtle page we see how a little round egg, laid in the sand, is the nursery of a turtle hatchling. When the hatchling is ready it “breaks out,” and over time its soft rubbery shell hardens. The turtle grows and grows until it is an adult.
Similarly we see how a chick hatches out of an egg and grows to become a chicken, and how a caterpillar comes out of a tiny egg and turns into a butterfly.
This book provides grownups with the means to show children how miraculous the changes in nature can be.
