Imagine that you are holding a triangle in your hand. What could that triangle be? You might, for a while, find that you cannot think of a single triangular thing. Then, suddenly, you see the picture of a wizard’s hat in your mind’s eye. From there your mind hops from one triangular thing to another.

In this book Yusuke Yonezu encourages little children to imagine what a triangle can be, and to see shapes in the world around them. The book begins with a blue triangle, which we can see through a cutout on the first page. We are asked, “What can this triangle be?” When we turn the page we see how the triangle can be a roof or a hat.

On the next spread we encounter a red triangle, which we once again see through a cutout window. When we turn the page we see how that triangle can be a flag, or the sail of a little boat.

As they look through this book, children will enjoying seeing how a triangle can be a tree, a mouse’s face, an umbrella, a piece of cheese and so much more. They might even trying guessing what the triangles that they are seeing through the page cuts outs are going to be when they turn the page.
