Young children love books that contain novelty features, and who can blame them. There is something magical about a book that has flaps to lift and textured surfaces to touch. In this novelty title children can practice learning their numbers and they can have an interactive bookish experience at the same time.

On every spread children are given a number, some text, a picture, and a novelty feature. Thus for the number one there is a picture of the number, a section of text that reads “One little kitten’s fur is long,” and a photo of a kitten. On the kitten’s chest there is some soft fur that children will enjoy stroking.

For the letter four we see pictures of four fruits that “are good to eat.” There is a strawberry, a star fruit, a plum, and a big apple. The apple has a flap that can be opened to reveal what the inside of the apple looks like when it is cut in half.

Children are going to thoroughly enjoy learning their numbers from 1 to 20 as they explore this book. Brightly colored photographs that are paired with cunning illustrations make every page engaging and interesting.
