It is Christmas Eve and ten little mice are huddled together for warmth. There is snow on the ground and the little mice have no shelter at all. One of the little mice sees that there is a snug little space under the branch of a pine tree and he makes himself at home there. Here at least he is sheltered.

Another little mouse takes shelter under a strip of bark, and one sweet little girl mouse finds a red feather that serves as a splendid bed for a cold and wet mouse. Other mice make beds in moss, in a fallen nest, and in a milkweed pod. Eventually all ten mice have a snug place to sleep. There is only one problem; they are no longer together and none of them want to be without their friends on such a special night.

With softly luminous and delightfully sweet illustrations and Eileen Spinelli’s rhyming verse, this picture book is the perfect title to share with children on a cold winter’s night before Christmas.
