Three little mermaids are going to have a tea party, and they send all their “sea friends” invitations. Soon enough the guests arrive, some bearing gifts. A blue octopus brings some “sticky treats,” and “five dapper dolphins” bring the mermaids some flowers. Six smiling sea turtles really get into a celebratory mood and they dance “for hours.”

For this unique book, Mara Van Fleet uses novelty features to help her young readers to practice their counting skills. There are textured surfaces to explore with little fingers, tabs to pull, and flaps to lift. On the last double page spread, children are encouraged to “Go back and count” the mermaid’s friends all over again.

With its cunning illustrations, exciting novelty features, and a bouncy rhyming text, this counting book is sure to become a sure favorite with little children.
