The world is full of loud noises, and the funny thing about these noises is that they are all different. The sound that Uncle Alexander’s old car makes is very different from the sound a burp makes when it is quiet time in class. The cheer that children make when someone completes a home run is very different from the “applause loud” that one hears at the end of a school play. The sound of a campfire crackling is not that loud compared to some loud noises, but compared to “deafening silence loud” it is very noisy indeed.

In this sweet and often funny picture book, Deborah Underwood explores the different kinds of loud noises that children may encounter as they go about their business being children. Some of the noises are innocent, and some are most certainly not. What a delightful picture of childhood.
