The Bus Driver
Board book
For ages 3 to 5
Random House, 2013 ISBN: 978-0307979070
In the morning the bus driver gets into his bus and he starts his rounds. His first two passengers are a pair of “chatty girls” who are talking on their cell phones. Then three firefighters, whose truck has broken down, hop on board. Later on the human passengers on the bus are joined by eight dogs, each of which has nine fleas. Not surprisingly, the passengers make “a fuss” about the fleas!
When the bus is full, the driver cannot make any more stops, so instead he decides to “make some drops.” In groups the passengers get out. First the ten teachers get off in front of the school. Then the driver takes the dogs to the dog wash so that they can get rid of their fleas. It is a relief not to have those fleas on the bus anymore, but there are still a lot of people who need to taken to their destinations.
In this cunning little bus-shaped board book, bouncy rhyming verse is paired with full page art to give little children a counting book that is quite unique. As passengers are added to the bus, the numbers increase from one to ten. Then, as the passengers get off the bus, the numbers go from ten back to one. This book provides young children with a great way to practice their counting skills.
