There were once two mice who admired, and coveted, the same pumpkin. From the time when it was just a small green nubbin of a thing Clayton the house mouse and Desmond the field mouse had plans for that pumpkin. Each mouse cared for the pumpkin tenderly (without the other knowing) and naturally with two mice caring for the pumpkin, the vegetable flourished. Indeed, it grew at an astonishing pace until it was quite enormous. Both Desmond and Clayton could hardly believe how large the pumpkin had become and both made plans for what they were going to do with the pumpkin when the time came. Naturally neither knew what the other was up to.

Then one night the two mice both thought that they should cover up the pumpkin with blankets in case of an early frost. And, at last, Desmond and Clayton met. They soon discovered that they had both been caring for the same pumpkin. What a laugh they shared! Then they discussed their plans for their giant pumpkin.

This is a charming holiday tale which little children are sure to enjoy and get a laugh out of. They will like the idea that two mice are taking care of the same pumpkin at different times of day, and that the two mice are unaware of each other. Best of all, children will see that the mice are able to find a happy way to share the pumpkin they have both worked so hard to raise.
