Dark clouds are starting to cover the sky and Bird decides that it would be wise to take shelter in a hollow in the hill. The wind then picks up and Mouse runs to the hollow to take cover. Together the two animals look out at the rapidly building storm. It isn’t long before Squirrel joins them, eager to get away from the swirling leaves. When lightening starts “to crack,” Rabbit joins the three animals in the hollow. Chipmunk doesn’t like getting wet and runs into the hollow when the rain starts to fall. The animals are very lucky that they have a nice dry place to wait out the storm.

In this clever counting book Nancy Tafuri tells a little story counting forward to ten, and then she counts backwards when something sudden, unexpected, and amusing takes place in the tale. Throughout the book the narrative is accompanied by Nancy’s gorgeous full-page artwork.
