Most of us have heard that famous Christmas song "The Twelve Days of Christmas" many times and some of us have seen picture book versions of the song as well in which we have seen geese a-laying, a partridge in a pear tree, and all the other wonderful gifts that that generous true love gave. In this book you are going see those well known gifts once again but this time they are not going to be what you expect.
Instead of three French hens clucking about you will see three hen shaped candlesticks. Instead of seven swans a-swimming on a lake or a river you will see seven swans floating about in a snow globe. The eight maids a-milking are actually eight little gingerbread maids being lifted off a cookie sheet. And as for the ten pipers piping, well in this book they are ten little paper angles blowing pipes which are being skillfully cut from paper.
Robert Sabuda has created a truly marvelous collection of pop-ups for this highly collectable title. Every time a page is turned or a flap is lifted readers will find another paper delight which will astonish them. On the very last spread Sabuda pulls together all of the twelve gifts and he lays them under, stands them near, or hangs them on a lovely Christmas tree which is complete with a star and flashing lights. A deliciously unique sense of humor combined great creativity makes this a pop-up book which readers of all ages will enjoy.
Included with this anniversary edition there is a paper craft ornament which readers can hang on their Christmas tree.
