One day a little boy and his mother are eating tacos and the little boy holds up his hands to show his mother how messy they are. Mama does not get angry with her little boy, because, after all, taco eating is a messy business. Instead, she laughs and tells her son how thankful she is to have her “funny, messy boy” in her life. She adds that she is thankful for “every single bit of you, every single day,” including his hands.
The boy wonders if his mama would still be thankful if he had robot hands that were noisy. Mama, being a wise woman who understands the ways of little boys and robot hands, tells her son that she would change the setting of the robot hands so that they could be useful around the house.
What if the boy had a mouth like the big fish that they saw at the aquarium? Mama responds by saying that such puckered lips would be perfect for kisses and she would be thankful for them too.
The mother is this book is the kind of parent who knows exactly how to answer her little son’s funny questions, and she also knows how to make him feel loved and cherished. Children and their grownups will enjoy sharing this wonderful little board book and they may even come up with some of their own “…but what if…” scenarios.
