One night Jack tells his parents about his new friend Tashi. He tells them how Tashi came to their country on the back of a white swan to escape from an evil war lord and how Tashi is now his best friend. Each day, while they eat their lunch, Tashi tells Jack about some of the extraordinary adventures that he has had. He hears about the war lord came looking for Tashi and how the swan once again came to Tashi’s rescue.

Once day Tashi comes over for dinner and after the meal is over he and Jack go out into the garden where Tashi tells Jack all about the time when he, Tashi, met a dragon – the last dragon – and got the better of him.

Young readers who are ready to read longer and more challenging books will be delighted with this title especially as it is the first in a series of Tashi books. Lovely pencil drawings break up the easy-to-follow and engaging text and the combination of scenes from every day life, fantastical creatures, and magic is irresistible.
