It was a hot summer and the mice living in Brambley Hedge are finding ways to keep cool. The best place to be on a hot day is down by the stream. It is on the banks of this stream that we find the flour and dairy mills and it is in the dairy stump that we find Poppy Eyebright. The mill is run by Dusty dogwood, a cheerful and likeable mouse who always seems to be covered with flour. "Summer Story" is a charming little story about these two little mice, in fact it is about the wedding of Poppy and Dusty. There are so many arrangements to be made, plans to be carried out, and soon the whole of Brambley Hedge is fair buzzing with wedding preparations.

We follow the various wedding-related activities with great interest and wish we were small enough to partake of the wonderful feast with the charming mice. Once again Jill Barklem has created a beautiful and delightful little book.
