Snow Day Dance
Picture Book
For ages 4 to 6
Albert Whitman, 2005 ISBN: 978-0807575239
It has started to snow and, as the children cut out paper snowflakes in their school classroom, their teacher tells her students to "wear your pajamas backwards and do the magic dance" when they get home. This the children do in the hope that their little bit of magic and hopeful wishing will give them what they want - a snow day with no school.
And this is just what they get for the next day there is so much snow that school is kept closed. In no time the streets are full of children and dogs building snowmen and pulling sleds.
The author of this picture book has captured the atmosphere of excitement and hope which helps to make snow days so special. In addition the beauty of the snowy landscape fills the pages, soft white drifts contrasting with the bright colors of the children’s jackets, hats, mittens and sleds.
At the back of the book the author has included a fascinating section called "Snow and Snowflakes" which describes how snowflakes are formed and why they develop the beautiful shapes that we can see if we look at a snowflake under a magnifying glass.
