Adults who have a child or children in their lives know full well that children love to ask questions. Sometimes we don’t know the answers to these questions and have to do a little research to find them. Sometimes the questions start a discussion that goes in all kinds of directions, which can be a lot of fun.
In this beautiful and thought-provoking board book Marcus Pfister asks some wonderful questions about the natural world, the kinds of questions that children and grownups alike find interesting. The questions he poses include “What brings summer after spring?” and “How many little fish might see / the stone I throw into the sea?” By asking his questions, which are in perfect rhyming couplets, the author helps us so see that the world around us is beautiful, remarkable, and precious. His questions can also serve as prompts for grownups who want to share the wonders in our world with young children. They can be jumping off points for a variety of conversations and explorations.
Throughout the book the rhyming questions are paired with Marcus Pfister’s beautiful prints, which were created using cardboard cut outs and acrylic paint.
