Tonight Buzz has some homework to do; he has to write a fairy tale and he invites his pet and friend, Fly Guy, to help him. Fly Guy is thrilled at the prospect, and he quickly gets caught up in the storytelling process.

Buzz begins with “Once upon a time there was an ugly troll.” Fly Guy does not like this beginning at all. He does not like the idea of having the main character be “a smelly pig herder” either. Then Buzz suggests that the main character should be a handsome prince, which Fly Guy happily agrees to.

Buzz then goes on to tell the story of what happens to the handsome prince. Fly guy makes it clear which direction he wants the story to go in, scowling when Buzz comes up with an idea that he does not like, and saying “YEZZ!” when a story idea is put forward that Fly Guy likes. Piece by piece the friends build a story that they both feel happy with.

Telling stories is something that many children enjoy doing. In this book they will see how a boy and his pet fly work together to create an exciting tale. Children may even like to try collaborating with a friend on a fairy tale for themselves.

With a simple story and amusing illustrations on every page, this is an excellent book for beginner readers. It is one of the titles in the Fly Guy series.
