Every year the River Patrollers cut a large block of ice out of their pond and they create a beautiful ice sculpture, which they enter in the annual Ice Festival ice sculpture competition. This year, their neighbors, the Pigaroons, steal the ice block and turn it into an ice sculpture of their own. This behavior is not altogether surprising because the Pigaroons are decedents of Spanish pirates. Stealing is, alas, in their blood.

On the day of the festival, the River Patrollers decide that something has to be done. The Pigaroons cannot be allowed to get away with their thoughtless behavior. They need to be taught a lesson; and so the River Patrollers hatch a plan.

With its piggy characters and its amusing lesson, this picture book is a joy to read. Young children will love the way in which the River Patrollers get their own back.
