One day the animals who lived in the forest heard a loud and dreadful howling noise. At first they thought the old wolf was making the noise, but when brave a hedgehog went to investigate, he discovered that the source of the noise was a small and very unhappy baby owl.
The hedgehog asked the little owl if she had falling out her nest, but she just shook her head and kept crying. The crow offered to play with the owl, but she wasn’t interested in that either. Thinking that the owl was perhaps hungry, a squirrel brought the baby a snack to eat, but that kind gift had no impact on the owl’s howling at all. She kept on weeping and making more noise than one would think would be possible for such a small creature.
In this story the author cleverly builds up the tension, and then gives readers an ending that is funny, and as grownups will know, very true to what sometimes happens when a small child gets upset.
