There is a voice in the air that "calls over and over" to all the living things that can be found in the North Country. It is a voice which begs to be heard and which tells of a wonderful thing that is happening all around. The voice tells the animals to come out of their dens and burrows. It tells the trees to "Fill with sweet sap till your leaf-buds burst." The voice tells frogs to come out and sing and the otters to "Splash and play all day." The voice seeks out people inviting them to look up a the night sky at the "dancing stars" and to "hear the voice that is calling to you."
And what is this voice? Why, it is "The Song of beginnings/The Song of spring."
For this stunning picture book Reeve Lindbergh has created memorable verse which is packed with beautifully evocative images. The illustrations rendered in acrylics swirl across the page, perfectly capturing the essence of the words and giving substance to the people, places, plants, and animals mentioned in the verse.
