Children love to pretend that they are animals, and one of the best things about being a pretend animal is that you get to make animal noises.

In this little board book the author takes her readers to a farm where they get to meet some chickens, a cow, ducks, pigs, sheep, and horses. We see each of the animals in their natural setting. The chickens are pecking away at grain in the yard, and the cow is in a field among the flowers. The duck is paddling away in water, and the pigs are wallowing in mud. The sheep are in a meadow, and the horses are next to the barn.

For each kind of animal we are asked a question. For the chickens we are asked “What does a rooster say? And when we press a button on the rooster’s body it makes a crowing sound. On the pages where we see the ducks we are asked, “Can you make the duck say quack?” and when we press a button on the swimming duck we can indeed make the duck quack.

At the end of the book we are asked if we can make the noises that the six animals that we have met made.

This book is sure to resonate with young children who like to make animal noises, and who enjoy ‘visiting’ farms on the pages of books.
