My First Root Children

Sibylle von Olfers
Board Book
For ages 1 to 3
Floris Books, 2012   ISBN: 978-0863158599

Spring is almost here and under the greening ground Mother Earth wakes up the root children, who have been asleep all winter. The little children make new dresses for themselves and then they help the beetles and other insects get ready by bathing them and brushing them. They even paint nice shiny red coats onto the backs of the ladybugs.

When everyone is ready, the root children and their insect friends leave their home underground and come out into the sunshine. They have months ahead of them full of adventures and games.

In 1906 Sibylle von Olfers created a picture book called The Story of the Root Children. Images from this timeless title have been combined with a simplified text to create this beautiful board book for little children. Readers will learn about the seasons, and the text and artwork will serve as wonderful jumping off place for discussions and art projects that explore nature’s wonders.
