Mouse and Minka are going out for the day. They sneak into a picnic basket and are taken out to a place where the sky is a glorious is blue, where the grass is a rich green, where black ants crawl about collecting crumbs, where there are cool sweet slices of red watermelon to munch on, and so much more.

For Mouse these are all new things to see, new things to experience, and he has lots of questions to ask. "What's this for?" he asks, and "What's in here?" Like any young child who is experiencing things for the first time he is full of wonder. Truly the world in the summer is full of delightful things to do, to eat, and to see.

With simplicity and an obvious understanding and appreciation for how children see their world, the author of this charming book perfectly captures the essence of summer days. Young children will be eager to experience the same pleasures that Mouse so clearly enjoys as he learns what a kite is for and how delicious a peanut butter and jelly sandwich can be.

This is one of the books in the New York Times award winning "Mouse's First" series.
