One day while Mrs Duck is taking a little rest from nest sitting, a gust of wind blows her little house up into the air and her nest – with her four eggs inside it – flies through the air. The nest lands on a tortoise's back and the four little ducklings hatch out soon after.
Not surprisingly the four ducklings want to find their mother. They ask the tortoise if it is there mother and it tells them "certainly not." And so the ducklings set off to find their missing parent. Next they meet up with a large fluffy dog and they ask it if it is their mother. "Dear me, no" the dog says and the ducklings hurry off. Clearly it is not going to be easy for the little birds to find their mother.
With beautiful illustrations and a warm gently humorous text, this book would make a perfect title for reading before naptime or bedtime. Little children will enjoy seeing the animals that the ducklings encounter during their search.
