Through the Looking Glass Children's Book Reviews
Maisy Goes to the Library
Picture Book Series
For ages 2 to 5
Candlewick Press, 2005 ISBN: 978-0763626693
Maisy loves to spend time in the library. Today she is looking for a book about fish and right next to the fish aquarium she finds just what she is looking for. She is happy to have found the book and finds a nice quiet corner in which to read it. But then Maisy's friends turn up and it is story time. Ostrich reads "There was an old woman who swallowed a fly" to Maisy and her friends and soon everyone is laughing as they listen to the funny poem. It would seem that the library is not only a quiet place to find and read books, it is also a place to have fun.
This picture book is sure to encourage little children to want to explore their own library. Hopefully, like Charley, Tallulah, Eddie and Cyril, they too will be inspired by the books they read or have read to them. Perhaps they too will want to play at being that poor old woman who swallowed a fly.
