It is Christmas Eve and nothing is moving in the old house in Paris that is all covered with vines. The reason being that everyone, except Madeline, is sick in bed and Madeline is left with the considerable job of having to take care of everyone. Then there is a knock at the door. It is a rug merchant and Madeline soon buys his entire stock to try to warm up the cold old house. But then, the rug merchant himself gets sick and Madeline has a new patient to feed, treat, and take care of.

What Madeline does not know is that the rug merchant is also a magician of considerable abilities and once he is well he does all he can to fulfill the Christmas dreams of everyone who lives in that wonderful old house in Paris.

Madeline fans will greatly enjoy this charming tale with its touch of Christmas magic. With her generosity and kindness Madeline keeps faith with the spirit of Christmas and she and her friends are amply rewarded for it.
