Sam is a little mouse who lives in the children's section in a library. Every night, when the visitors are gone, Sam comes out of his hole and he reads. He reads books of all kinds until his head is full of "facts and information and images of far-away places." Max has so many thoughts in his head that he decides to write a book of his own.

With great care, Max makes a little book using small squares of paper, and then he writes about "A Mouse's Life." The story is a factual account so Sam puts the book in the autobiography/biography section in the library. Then he settles down in his little mouse hole to see what the library visitors think of his creation.

In this delightful picture book, children will get to meet a little mouse who is not afraid to explore new possibilities. Though Sam has never written a book before, he takes the plunge anyway, and he is remarkably successful. Children will surely be inspired to try writing their own fantasies, mysteries, and fairytales after they read about this special library mouse.
