The ancient Greeks built a society and culture that became much of the basis for modern Western civilization. They had significant impacts on language, architecture, politics, philosophy, science and the arts - including a strong impact on the Roman Empire. Key figures included Aristotle, Plato, Socrates and Alexander the Great.
