Hans Christian Andersen

It is hard to imagine growing up without the tales of the Ugly Duckling and the Little Mermaid. These stories and many others were the creation of Hans Christian Andersen, a storyteller whose contribution to children's literature was so great that an award was named after him in his honor. The Hans Christian Andersen Award is given biennially to an author and an illustrator who has made a lasting contribution to the world of children's literature.
