Katie and her brother Jack are on a holiday in Scotland with their grandma. They are visiting Loch Ness, a big lake that is famous for being the home of a creature known as the Loch Ness Monster. As they are walking next to the lake, Katie asks Jack if he believes in the monster. Jack announces that “There’s no such thing as monsters,” which is when the Loch Ness Monster herself surfaces and comes over to the children.

The monster, Nessie, turns out to be a very friendly creature, and when she finds out that Katie and Jack are on holiday she admits that she too would love to go on a holiday. Katie suggests that Nessie join them, and the enthusiastic lake monster tells the children that she would love to visit the Edinburgh Festival. Katie, Jack, and their grandma are perfectly willing to take Nessie to Edinburgh, but getting her there is going to be quite a challenge. After all, a Lock Ness Monster cannot fit on a regular train.

In this charming Katie title, Katie goes to Scotland and she visits some of the popular tourist attractions with a very unusual Scottish companion. Young readers will enjoy sharing Katie’s adventures and getting to know Nessie. At the back of the book readers will find more information about Scotland and its treasures.
