One day a little girl opens her front door and she looks out. It is a cloudy day and rain pours down onto the houses and streets. The little girl mother helps her to put on her rain boots and a green slicker with a hood. Then, with an umbrella in hand and her spaniel for companionship, the little girl heads out into the rain.

As water pours out of a downspout, the little girl makes a boat using some twigs and a leaf. The boat floats beautifully in a little stream that begins at the bottom of the downspout and that flows across the yard.

Together the little girl and her dog have a grand time splashing in puddles. Then there are mud pies to be made, and the little girl discovers how satisfying it is to stomp in the mud.

All too often we run indoors when it rains, which is a shame because playing outdoors on a rainy day can be a lot of fun. This simple little board book celebrates the simple joys that a rainy day can bring to a small child.
