After the heat of the summer, the arrival of autumn is a wonderful time of year, one filled with special activities, events, sights, and smells. A little girl notices how the days are growing shorter and the fact that her Grandpop is wearing slipper socks in the mornings now. There are apples to pick, leaves to rake up, hayrides to go on, and stories to listen to while sitting around a camp fire. Pumpkins need to chosen and there are delicious pumpkin muffins to eat for breakfast.

In this book a simple unaffected text with gentle rhymes and rhythms captures the joys of autumn. The author leaves the reader with a warming collection of sights, sounds, smells, and tastes, and one can almost hear the little girl biting into her crisp read apple as she sits in the grass in an orchard. For though there is work to be done in this harvest time, there is also plenty of time to play..
