Through the Looking Glass Children's Book Reviews

Blue Apple Books, founded in 2003, is an independent publisher dedicated to producing high quality, age-appropriate children’s books in innovative formats. From the beginning, Blue Apple has been focused on combining art and text to make the most readable, educational, and entertaining books for readers—especially for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers.

Blue Apple is untraditional in a number of ways. We maintain a small, studio-like environment that stimulates close collaboration among authors, illustrators, editors, and designers.  As an independent company, we have the flexibility to publish books we like, books we believe in, and books that are sure to be important for a child’s development.  We maintain relationships with all our artists:  each list features illustrators who have been with Blue Apple since the beginning and others who are just getting their start, many of whom work on their books at our studio in New Jersey.

Each one of our books addresses an important theme in early childhood:  separation, loss, and reunion; the emotional bond between parents and children; the development of empathy.  We also take a child’s intellectual development into account to cover concepts such as colors, counting, shapes, and letter sounds.

The Blue Apple list focuses on “modern books for modern kids.” Among our award-winning titles are Alphabeasties and Other Amazing Types, Lights on Broadway, Round Like a Ball, Hanukkah Haiku, Long Tail Kitty, and Simms Taback’s Safari Animals.

Best-selling formats include the Bibs to Go and Deborah Zemke’s Doodle placemats series.
