One sunny morning, Henry, his mother, and his dog Mudge are sitting on the front porch when a man and his dog walk by. It is soon clear that the dog is extremely well behaved. It sits, lies down, stays, and heels, doing whatever its master tells it to do. Seeing how well the dog behaves makes Henry realize that his dog, who is very loveable, is not well trained at all. Perhaps it is time for Mudge to go to school.
As Henry gets ready for Mudge’s first day at school, he worries that Mudge won’t do well. He might “drool on the teacher’s foot. Or sit on a poodle my mistake.” So many things could go wrong.
Anyone who has had a dog in their life will enjoy and appreciate this book. With three short chapters and illustrations throughout, this is a book that was written especially for beginner readers who are just getting used to reading on their own.
This is one in a series of books about Henry and Mudge.
