Did you know that Halloween is a very ancient holiday? Long ago it was called All Hallows Eve and it was a harvest festival. Some people thought that ghosts, witches and other creatures came out on All Hallows Eve and they would dress up in costumes to fool these frightening creatures.

In the past trick-or-treaters would indeed play tricks on people if those people did not "treat" them accordingly. Thankfully that practice is not common anymore and householders do not need to worry that their visitors will do something mischievous. Instead Halloween is a time for parties, special decorations, going to haunted houses, carving pumpkins, and getting dressed up.

Young children will find this 'guide' to Halloween both interesting and helpful. They will not only know what to expect on the special day, but they will also know where some of the Halloween customs came from. A simple text and excellent photographs make this a winning title in the "My First Holidays" series.
