All kinds of animals lay eggs. The funny thing is that most of the time, if you look at an egg, you have no idea what laid it. You need some clues to identify what laid the egg and therefore what is going to hatch out of it.

In this picture book, we are going to look at six very different eggs. The author first shows us the egg in its natural habitat and she gives us some written clues in a few lines of verse. She asks us “Can you guess what is growing inside this egg?”

When you turn the page, you will find out what kind of baby is growing in the egg and the author gives us some information about the baby, its parents, and the environment it lives in.

For example, the first page, we see a pair of very large feet and on top of the feet there is a large egg. What is inside this egg? Turn the page and you see a little penguin chick sitting on its parent’s feet, peeking out from under the feathers. From the text will learn that the father cares for the egg for two months, and during that time he does not eat anything.

The book is packed with information that is beautifully and cleverly presented. Young readers will learn about a wide variety of animals, some of which are quite surprising.
