Rabbit and Mouse are going on a picnic, which is wonderful news. Unfortunately, before the friends can start their picnic it begins to rain, but Rabbit is prepared and has an umbrella. The friends do not get to enjoy their good luck though because the wind, which is very strong, blows the umbrella away, with mouse holding on to it. Thankfully, a tree gets in the way and the umbrella, with mouse attached to it, comes to a rather abrupt stop.
The good thing about finding oneself under a tree during a rainstorm is that it is a dry place to be and Rabbit happily lays out the picnic blanket, which is when the two animals are pelted by apples falling off the tree. Of course, now Rabbit and Mouse have apples to eat. Mouse is happy that things are definitely looking up until he bites into his apple and finds a worm! Rabbit quickly saves the day by getting a big piece of cake out of the picnic basket. At last the friends can enjoy their picnic. Or so they think.
In this often hilarious picture book a minimal text is paired with clever illustrations to follow the trials and tribulations of two animals whose good news moments seem to always be followed by dreadful bad news ones. It is amusing to see how Rabbit is always jolly and looking on the bright side of things, while Mouse tends to have a rather unhappy expression on his furry face.
This would be the prefect book to share with someone who is not having a very good day.
