In the past, books for very young children tended to be all the same. They were board books that explored concepts or told simple stories. These days, board books have a lot more to offer toddlers. Some have pop-ups to look at, tabs to pull, or textured surfaces to touch. Some even have sniffs to smell! Then there are the books that have flaps to lift. There is something about lift-the-flap books that children find irresistible.

In this novelty board book the editors at Tiger Tales introduce children to eight colors, with one color being featured each page. For example, on the first page we see a photo of a red strawberry. We are asked what color it is. The strawberry photo is on a flap, and when we lift the flap we see photos of five more red objects underneath.  In addition we see the word “red” and we see the names of the other red objects.  Children will thus learn the names of the eight colors featured in the book, and they will also learn the names of everyday objects such as a car, a dress, a boat and a fish. Over time they will start to recognize the words, which is the way many children start learning how to read.

This title in the My First Lift and Learn collection from Tiger Tales will delight young children. There are flaps to lift on every page, bright color photographs to look at, and thanks to a cunning little built-in handle, children can carry their book around with them.
