Before people came to live on the island of Ireland the country was positively overflowing with the luck which the leprechauns made. Then people began to arrive and as they went about their business the "luck clung to them wherever they went." The king of the leprechauns was not at all happy about this and decided to gather up the luck and keep it in a chest. Unfortunately when he did this his leprechaun luck collectors not only collected their luck, but any other luck which was floating around. As a result Ireland and its people began to suffer from all kinds of dreadful calamities.
At this time a clever woman called Fiona lived in Ireland and she had a pretty good idea about what was going on. She knew that somehow the leprechauns had to be convinced to give up some of the luck which they had collected. She also knew that the only way that she was going to achieve this was through her wits and she set about formulating a plan. Even after the king of the leprechauns takes her to his underground palace, Fiona stays sharp and thinks on her feet.
This is a charming fairy tale about how Ireland almost lost its luck forever. With its magical multimedia illustrations and its clever and likeable heroine, this is a story which leprechaun lovers will truly enjoy.
