Sara and her family are at the beach and as soon as everything is set up, Sara asks her family if any of them want to help her make her famous seaweed soup. Daddy is far too busy putting sunscreen on everyone and Mommy is too busy feeding baby Hallie. Determined not to give up her culinary endeavors, Sara goes and gets the basis for her soup – seawater – by herself. When it is time to collect seaweed for the soup Sara tries, once again, to get her family to participate in the famous seaweed soup preparation. Alas, they are too busy and Sara must collect seaweed by herself. Will she have to do all the work to make her famous seaweed soup?
Most children who have been lucky enough to spend a day at the beach have made delicious "dishes" using items that they have found on the beach. Seaweed pizzas and shell pies are just two of the many beachside favorites. Now seaweed soup has been added to the menu and children will love this simple yet engaging portrait of a day on the sands.
