Every Friday a father and his son head out of their apartment to begin a precious weekly ritual which they share. Down the street they walk towards the diner. They look in shop windows, wave at the dog walker, the lady feeding the pigeons, and the man selling newspapers. No matter what the weather they walk down the blocks through the early morning city bustle enjoying their time together. When they get to the diner they have their breakfast, talking about “all sorts of things” and watching the people walking by. It is a special time that they look forward to all week.
Illustrated in a distinctive vintage 1950’s style, this warm and personal picture book is both thoughtfully written and memorably illustrated. Without a doubt this shared time is important to both the little boy and his dad. The author’s note at the beginning of the book explains that the author and his son have been having breakfast at their corner diner since the boy turned three and the author hopes that “you too, will start a little tradition like ours.”
