We are in the countryside where all kinds of creatures live. Here, near the branch of a tree, we see a big, bushy tail poking out and we are asked to guess who the tail belongs to. When we open up the folding page we see that the owner of the tail is a squirrel. She is bringing acorns to her babies who are waiting for her in their nest, which is in a hollow tree.

Here is another tail, a little brown, black, and white tail that is sticking out of a big bush. This time, when we open the folded page, we see that the tail belongs to a mother deer. In front of her is her baby and it is lying “in a nest in the high grass.”

Further on, near some mounds of earth, another creature is mostly concealed from us and all we can see is a very “teeny tiny tail.”  When we open up the page we see a mother hedgehog, who has brought her babies some apples to eat. The babies are sleeping and eating in a nest that is made of branches and leaves.

Children are going to enjoy trying to guess who the seven mamas in this book are. The text shows them what kind of homes these animals build for their babies. Every spread is brightly colored, and in each one there are birds, insects, and other creatures to look at.
