The Martin family are off to the country fair, an exciting event which they enjoy and participate in every fall. The fair begins with a colorful parade which wends its way down the main street of town. After watching this, the family go on to the fairground to get their exhibits ready and to explore. Martha, Henry and George look at all the delicious foods on display. If only they could eat some of it, but the food is there to be judged and not to be eaten -yet. Next they look at the handmade quilts and rugs in the craft tent.
At noon there are horse races and then the judging begins. Will George's heifer and mother's enormous pumpkin win ribbons this year?
Folkloric style paintings beautifully compliment this celebration of a fall fair when people of all kinds come together to celebrate the harvest season. Readers from towns and country alike will enjoy sharing the Martin family's special day.
