The farmer is sleeping, and all the farm animals are being very careful not to wake him up because they have a mission to complete. Four chickens keep watch, five cows type a note on the old typewriter, and six goats load up the boat.
As quietly as possible, seven pigs carrying buckets leave the house and head down to the boat. Nine mice stand on a bucket, and on each top of each other, to leave a note on the door that says, “GONE FISHING.” Then, at last, the animals set about completing their secret mission.
In this quite delightful board book, Doreen Cronin and Betsy Lewin pair a great story with wonderful illustrations to give little children a novel counting book experience. Children will be intrigued to find out what the animals are up to, and they will laugh out loud when they figure out what the secret mission is.
