Chippy Chipmunk Parties in the Garden
Nonfiction Picture Book
For ages 5 to 7
Celtic Sunrise, 2009 ISBN: 978-0984089307
Chippy Chipmunk has woken up from his winter hibernation, and he is ready to explore the garden. Birds and animals of all kinds are out and about enjoying the warm spring weather. Chippy happily collects fresh leaves and he takes them back to his burrow. He also collects stones, which he carries back to his burrow inside his cheek pouches. The stones are just what he needs to cover his burrow.
Now it is time for Chippy to look for food. As he zigzags through the plants, Chippy stays alert, looking for any signs that a predator is around. Then, at last, his search is rewarded. Chippy sees a feeder that is stuffed with peanuts. He sees a chickadee, a downy woodpecker, a titmouse, and a blue jay dining on the delicious treats. More than anything, Chippy wants to join this “peanut party.”
To create this charming picture book, the author took photographs of a chipmunk who was exploring her garden. Young readers will get an up close and personal view of a chipmunk’s life, sharing its triumphs, its fears, and many personal moments in the little animal’s daily life.
